Women’s Aid Monmouthshire Ltd. (WAIMON) is the lead domestic abuse agency in Monmouthshire. We are a charity that provides practical and emotional support, information and refuge to women and children who are experiencing domestic abuse, or have experienced domestic abuse in the past.
We provide services right throughout Monmouthshire, including Abergavenny, Monmouth, Caldicot, Chepstow and the surrounding rural communities.
Our service is 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and is available to any woman or child who requests it, regardless of background or circumstances. No one should live with domestic abuse and we seek to challenge it in all of its forms by offering support, information and refuge, and by raising awareness in the community through education, training, publicity and liaising with other agencies.
Women’s Aid Monmouthshire – Key Principles
The key principles and values which guide Women’s Aid Monmouthshire (WAIMON) are:
Collective working:
1At WAIMON we strive to provide a working model that challenges traditional hierarchical structures and fosters a supportive environment with shared responsibility for delivering our services.
Feminist:
2Arising from the women’s rights movement that sought to establish gender equality WAIMON believes that domestic abuse is linked to inequality and is a gender based issue. All forms of violence towards women and children is unacceptable.
Safety:
3WAIMON are committed to challenging the misuse of power and control in order to minimise risk and make women and children safe.
Self Help
4Sharing experiences and supporting each other is an important part of the journey for many women to regain and develop their confidence and self-esteem.
Empowerment:
5 Through support women can take control of their lives and make informed choices.
Confidentiality:
6WAIMON has a strict Confidentiality Policy that ensures we respect the information that women share with us.
Women only:
7Exempt under the Equality Act 2010 (pursuant to Schedule 9, Part 1), WAIMON restricts paid employment opportunities to women, thus challenging stereotypes and demonstrating the strength gained from women working with and for women.
Diversity:
8WAIMON offers a non judgemental service to all women and children, valuing diversity and celebrating difference.
