.... working with women and children to challenge domestic abuse

09/11/2009 - Fancy a Challenge?

WAIMON is currently seeking volunteers. Volunteering can be extremely rewarding and may also help women back into the workplace. Our volunteers play an important part in the organisation, and without them we would not be able to provide such a dedicated service. Whilst we are seeking new volunteers, we also wish to thank our existing ones who do an excellent job including taking part in on-call, providing support to women and children and carrying out office duties.

WAIMON is a friendly environment where all your skills will be valued. It operates as a collective where, due to the nature of the work, all staff and volunteers are women.

Our volunteers need to have an understanding and interest in the effects of domestic abuse on women and children. However, don't worry if you're not an expert! When WAIMON takes on new volunteers a full induction is provided, spread over several months.

All workers, whether staff or volunteers, must have an enhanced disclosure (CRB check) carried out before they start work for WAIMON. This is because we work with vulnerable people, but it is also a measure that helps keep staff and volunteers safe.

Would you like to find out more?

If you are interested in volunteering, please telephone Fiona on 01873 859011. An information pack will be sent out - it may take a short while to post all the information you need but please be patient, it is worth it!

Once you have read through everything and are still interested, you can fill in and return the simple application form. You will be contacted to visit our office for an informal interview. If you like what you see then your CRB check will take place and induction training can start.

Remember - as a volunteer you can decide to work as many or as little hours as suit you. You may only wish to work for a few hours a week or for a few weeks of the year... Although there is no salary involved, places may be available on Welsh Women's Aid courses for dedicated volunteers and all reasonable expenses will be met.

If you feel that hands on volunteering is not for you and that you have professional training or management skills which could benefit WAIMON you may wish to apply to become a Trustee. If you would like more information, please contact Fiona on 01873 859011.

The women and children we support gain so much from our volunteers, it is a really worthwhile activity. Any time you can give is greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your interest.
