Community Referrals 2008/2009 |

| WAIMON does not receive funding for drop-in, floating support or outreach services. Although it is not advertised, an outreach service supporting a small number of Monmouthshire women does exist, staffed mainly by volunteers. It is usual for workers to offer 1 appointment for new referrals to assess their situation before offering information and signposting to other agencies. Where additional support is necessary, e.g. for solicitor’s appointments and court, this is provided by volunteers. |

The information service remains a valuable resource and, where workers cannot help directly, women who telephone are often signposted to other agencies.
However, WAIMON’s main community based resource is the Freedom Programme which is a 12 week rolling programme that runs in venues throughout the county during the year. As the programme is very intensive and can be difficult for some women, additional one to one support and telephone support is available or women who attend.
From 1 April 2008 – 31 March 2009, 87 women requested community based services. 81 women (125 children) were from Monmouthshire.
Of these:
* 26 women were referred to the Freedom Programme.
* 7 women were referred to the Freedom Programme and offered other information.
* 3 women were referred to the Freedom Programme and offered youth work.
* 1 woman was referred to the Freedom Programme and referred to housing.
* 1 woman was referred to Mental Health prior to attending Freedom Programme.
* 2 women were offered outreach support alongside the Freedom Programme.
* 19 women received outreach support and other information.
* 5 women received outreach support.
* 9 women received outreach and signposting.
* 1 woman received a referral to the IDVA.
* 1 woman was referred to Social Services and signposting.
* 1 woman caused concern and a child protection referral made, with signposting.
* 1 woman was referred for external rape counselling.
* 2 women were offered support but this was not taken.
* 1 woman was declined a service as she was not suffering domestic abuse.
* 1 woman was declined a service as her health was too poor.
Of the total referrals, 2 women (3 children) were from other Gwent authorities (Blaenau Gwent). A service was declined and the women were referred to Blaenau Gwent Domestic Abuse Services – the figure for women requesting a service from Blaenau Gwent is much higher than this, as initial assessments are rarely completed for women outside Monmouthshire.
Of the total referrals, 2 women (4 children) were from other authorities in Wales. A service was declined and these women were referred to their nearest group, in these incidences Brecknock Women’s Aid.
Of the total referrals, 2 women (4 children) were from other authorities in England. A service was declined and these women were referred to their nearest group, in these incidences West Mercia Women’s Aid (Hereford). |
